Winter break? Here are some top destinations

For mountain lovers, here are some destinations in the Dolomites where to spend a winter vacation near Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Can you imagine something more romantic and suggestive than a beautiful vacation in the snow for the holidays? Christmas atmosphere, lights and colors that adorn and decorate all mountains’ villages, the cabins covered with snow on the sloped roofs, the typical streets, the little local craft stores, the smell of hot chocolate and mulled wine… And for winter sports lovers, the possibility of skiing, snowboarding and iceskating. The mountain chain of Alps offers many destinations where to gift yourself with an unforgettable stay to relax and wellness. Here are some of the most famous and renowned localities.

Famous Dolomiti d’Ampezzo’s locality, in Belluno’s province, Cortina is known mostly for being one of the favorite destinations of many stars of sport and show business. There are more than one hundred forty kilometers of ski slopes and the presence of the Dolomiti d’Ampezzo national park makes it a crown jewel of rare beauty with peaks that reach 3.200 meters high and small glaciers. And after an entire day spent skiing, why not try the famous chenedi, typical local dish formed of balls of breadcrumbs stuffed with spinaches and lard.

Passo del Tonale and Alta Valtellina
A splendid area that spreads in the shadow of Presena glacier. The Tonale is located between Val di Sole and Valle Camonica, exactly on the border between Lombardia and Trentino. Cities of Bormio and Livigno form some ski areas well equipped and known. If in Livigno is the biggest snowpark in Italy, where you can snowboard and freestyle, Bormio boasts the presence of the new and “old” spa where to relax and combine the pleasure of sport with a healthy day dedicated to wellness and relax. In the end, you can’t leave Valtellina without tasting a good portion of cheese pizzoccheri, first dish made of buckwheat, or the famous bresaola.
