“Many get married in Florence, not having had the possibility of being born here.”
Ennio Flaiano was right when he pronounced these words, and we can’t disagree with him. Florence is the only choice we could ever made, in love with this marvelous city as we are.
The Hall of the five-hundred in Palazzo Vecchio, the biggest and historically most important hall in town, opened its doors to us and our guests, keeping its austere air and its ancient dignity, but attending the ceremony of our union sweetly. Built in 1496 for Girolamo Savonarola’s will, who intended to distribute the power over people, could host more than two-hundred men and women, moved like the five-hundred representatives of the Consiglio Maggiore were. Above us, the lacunar ceiling decorated with the Apoteosis of Cosimo I by Giorgio Vasari, that replaced the lost artworks by Leonardo and Michelangelo, showed us all its glory proudly.
“We married savoring the art and experiences the history.”
Piazza della Signoria, the Loggia dei Lanzi, the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto’s Campanile, the Baptistery, the Uffizi, the Gallerie dell’Accademia… We benefited from the dazzling sun to take some joyous pictures, with vivid colors, in the most beautiful places of Tuscany’s gem.
No one will ever be able to make our smiles fade from those photos on Ponte Vecchio, that acquired the look we know today in 1595, when Giorgio Vasari built the “Vasari’s Corridor” for Cosimo I. The two lines of workshops give us the impression of being still in the street until we look out the segmental arches and we see the Arno, that quietly flows underneath us and brings a centuries-old history with it.
The photographer suggested to shoot some photos in the Boboli Gardens, born as great dukes’ garden of Palazzo Pitti. And we didn’t wonder about the reason of his choice for sure. In the park, started by Medici family and completed by Lorraines and Savoias later, we felt like two aristocrats of other times and we perfectly matched with the elegance of its sculptures, of the amphiteather with its obelisk, of the Garden of Neptune and the Vasca dell’Isola… Every detail of the park looked like the ideal corner where to capture our happiness.
Today the shopping I promised you is waiting for us, but I also waited for it secretly. Through the streets of the city center, we will enjoy some time for us two alone, and we will finally have the chance to treat ourselves. I am sure that we will be enchanted by the windows of the ateliers of different styles that alternate, between hand-made tradition and new tendencies. Made in Italy will distinguish itself indeed for its creativity and classic refinement, guaranty of timeless quality. This time I promise I won’t complain if you linger more trying some haute couture pieces or some design shoes, I will admire you instead, feeling lucky for how stunning you are.
