New Year’s Eve is almost here again and deserves to be celebrated as it should be. Do you already have an idea of where to spend it? For the last-minute torn ones, here are the Italian squares to solve every doubt. Here you will find some interesting ideas for a low-cost New Year’s Eve that doesn’t need previous bookings. Many squares actually offer free concerts, even with hosts of a certain level: warming up dancing in the crowd will then be a must.
What are the concerts you can’t miss?
Milan – Lombardia
New Year’s Eve in Piazza Duomo is a classic of the holidays. The cathedral lighted up, the city center decorated, the excited crowd. The atmosphere is so inviting that you almost won’t feel the Milanese cold. The show will start at 8:00 P.M., with a succession of artists and comedians to entertain the public. The important guests whose names have already been disclosed are Fabri Fibra and Luca Carboni, but they are only two of the singers that will perform. Moreover, this year the concert will be accompanied by an amazing light show, an innovation in the tradition. Milan is waiting for you!
Florence – Tuscany
Florence distinguishes itself from the other cities for the wide choice it offers both in the musical genres and in the locations. How can you resist to the charm of Piazzale Michelangelo, with its privileged view on one of the most beautiful cities in the world? In addition, if it proposes the music of Ermal Meta, Morgan and Raphael Gualazzi, the pop lovers won’t hesitate a minute. Those who prefer to end the year with classical music instead will find what is right for him or her in Piazza della Signoria: from 10 P.M., master Giuseppe Lanzetta will direct the orchestra in Florence’s heart, with the splendid Palazzo Vecchio and Loggia dei Lanzi as a background. The alternative of attending a marching band in New Orleans style is interesting too. It will take place in Oltrarno, in Piazza del Carmine. In short, you just have to follow your years.
Maratea – Basilicata
2017 finished with a worldwide broadcasted event on Rai1 with the concert of Potenza. This year the attention focuses on Maratea instead, the only city in Basilicata overlooking the Tyrrhenean Sea. The coast is of a unique beauty, and in addition the port offers enough space for such a wide-ranging initiative, so that’s where the stage will be set up in all likelihood. For the names of the artists present at the “L’Anno che verrà” show we will have to wait a little longer, but we know that Amadeus is among the presenters and that after the midnight toast the party will continue until dawn to the rythm of the local bands. We are sure that Rai won’t disappoint us.
Cosenza – Campania
Cosenza decides to maintain an international line that tends to satisfy the tastes of the majority. Last year, the capital of Campania actually hosted Alvaro Soler, Spanish star that makes us dance every summer. 2018 will start nothing less then with Skunk Anansie instead, with their charismatic leader Skin. You can let loose on the notes of the greatest hits of the famous band, that reunited in 2009, in Piazza dei Bruzi.. Hard to resist.
Olbia – Sardegna
We move to Sardinia for another big party. In Olbia the name that stands out is in fact that of J-Ax, whose fame returned to ascend after the recent successes together with Fedez. The singer, that makes us sing since Articolo 31’s times, will perform on the stage set up at Molo Brin after the midnight toast. If the dinner doesn’t commit you too long, a very peculiar street theater show, “Zoé – L’origine della vita”, will entertain you, on the mythic theme of man-nature relationship. A very interesting option.
