Between history and sea: holiday or wedding in Terracina, Lazio region

The Town Hall Square of Terracina, Lazio, Italy

Romantic Terracina

Terracina, in the Lazio region, is half way between Rome and Naples. It is an ideal place for a holiday among history, sea and nature, but also to celebrate your wedding.

The town lies in a special area, between hills and sea. On the  Sant’Angelo Mount, overlooking the city, stands the Roman Temple of Jupiter Anxur. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking view: you can admire the gulf and the Pontine islands, up to Ischia and Capri on a clear day. For those who love history and special effects, until September at the Roman temple you can attend the show “Anxur Lumina”: special effects of lights and sounds, videos with virtual characters, dressed like Ancient Romans and inhabitants of the Middle Ages, go back over the history of this magnificent place in an original way.

In the city center the Town Hall Square is an open air museum, ideal to spend romantic moments: old location of the Forum Emiliano, there are Roman and medieval signs as the paving stone, the Romanesque cathedral, the Roman Theatre, the Gothic Venditti Palace.

Terracina’s summer is waiting for you with its fine golden sand beach, which is long 4 km and has many seaside resorts.

For hikers there is Campo Soriano Natural Monument, a protected area where you can observe the particular limestone rocks that arise from the ground in the shape of peaks, few kilometres from Terracina.

Terracina is also an ideal place to celebrate your wedding: recently you can also get married in very impressive places different from the Town Hall: the temple of Jupiter, the Church of St. Domenico, the eighteenth-century Palazzo della Bonifica, Villa Tomassini and eastern beach.
